Reserve Machining Time

Visit our Bookings page to schedule time on a machine. No single person should be reserving a single type of machine for more than 2 hours per day.

Training for machines in our shop is only for MECE affiliated students, i.e. students declared as MECE majors, students enrolled in MECE courses, and students involved in MECE research.

To schedule time to learn a specific machine, please make a machining consult appointment with our lab staff via the Bookings page. This consult will help lab staff layout a training schedule and better understand the needs of the space.

Machining Requests

Our lab houses a machine shop, but due to time and volume constraints, the lab staff is limited in their ability to accept fabrication requests. If a part is to be requested, there will be a fee associated with it for both the material used and time taken. The detailed protocol for fabrications requests are outlined in our Machine Shop Fabrication Request document. An overview of key takeaways are detailed below.

Overview

  • To make a fabrication request, please speak to a lab staff member by scheduling a machining consult via our Bookings Page.

  • At least 3 weeks’ notice is required to ensure the job is completed in a timely manner for non-MECE requests and at least 2 weeks’ notice for MECE requests.

  • Requests will be evaluated based on availability and fabrication is not guaranteed. Lab staff reserve the right to deny any request.

  • Rates

    • $75/hour for non-MECE requests and $50/hour for MECE requests

    • Material will be charged at-cost with no markup

    • For smaller jobs, there will be a minimum charge equivalent to 30 min of work

  • No design work will be performed - a staff member will only perform work with detailed drawings provided.

  • The staff holds no responsibility for failure of parts manufactured or poor design.
